Features of E-Learning

E-Learning provides a unique features and opportunities for people who have limited access to education and training because it incorporates innovative and creative approaches to learning and provides to resources and information.

E-learning allows learners to learn at their own pace and they can increase/decrease the pace as they require. This implies that learner can self-direct the learning by selecting what they want to learn by choosing the appropriate content and tools of their interest, needs and skill level. It can accommodate multiple learning styles using different delivery method for different learners and leaving them to choose the one that is more effective for them.

One major beauty and feature of e-learning is that it is designed around the learner to eliminate geographical barriers and open them to a broader educational options with 24/7 accessibility. This makes scheduling easy and encourages collaboration. Materials and activities are designed with the needs and interests of the learner in mind. Learners assume control of their learning experience and use it to suit their own specific needs. Learners control the amount of time they spend on any particular topic. This allows learners to spend additional time on difficult items before moving on or to skip material they already understand. This “individualized” approach usually allows learners to complete their education and training faster than in traditional courses.

Based on the internet technology, e-learning provide learning to a learner on demand and the learner can learn precisely when it is needed and anytime it is needed. This eliminates travel time and associated cost. Therefore, e-learning has the potential of lowering the cost of training to both organizations and individuals.  This also enhances greater interaction and collaboration between students,  fosters greater students/instructors contact, enhances computer and internet skills and draws from  hundreds of years of established pedagogical principles. These are the features why most educational institutions in the world, most with their own online degrees, certificates, and individual courses’
