4 methods of creating a website

There may be many methods of creating a website that can be used by a web designer.

Some requires having technical knowledge about computer programming and other do not.

However, all methods require a good understanding of computer operations skills. Here, we are presented 4 methods of creating a website.

Website design can be viewed as a science and as an art.

As a science,

it requires the understanding of Computer programming and writing computer codes.

As an art,

it involves creativity, visualization and inherent skills about colours and what looks good.

There are many programming languages for coding websites (such as PHP, Java, and so on).

There are also Content Management Systems (CMS) that can be used to develop websites without having coding skills. Some are WordPress, Joomla and so on.

However, either of the methods that you want to use, a web designer must understand the art of designing which involves creativity, visualization and inherent skills.

Presented below are 4 methods of creating a website.

Coding

As discussed above, this requires having the technical skills of computer programming in web application development and database system.

Common web application development tools are PHP, Java, Python, MySQL and so on.

Therefore anyone that has the coding skill can use it to develop his own website and for others.

However, if you’re new to web coding and design but you really want to build a website yourself, there are many options open to you.

You can build a simple site by teaching yourself basic html and CSS coding. Just be sure that you can also make it look nice and professional or you can use Content Management Systems.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

This method does not require programming skills but requires having the basic skill of computer operations and running a software.

Some content manage systems are WordPress, Joomla etc.

There are many free, open-source content management systems. You can purchase or find free in the internet.

Generally there are very easy to use. You can use some of them like WordPress to design and build a website that is hosted in a domain or some other platforms that provide templates that one can simply use and alter to his own needs.

The templates are pre-made webpages or websites that are to be filled with content.

One may not be able to move these webpages/templates for the place it is hosted to another domain freely and easily.

These are pre-made codes which you simply use and alter to your own needs. There are many reputable providers of templates, but a good one is Wix.

Combination of Coding and CMS

Depending on the purpose and the goals of the website, it may require some features that are not available in the CMS that one is using.

Such features may be coded and added as a plugin to the CMS. Thus one can enhance the features and functions of a CMS with some codes.

Hire a website designer

If you need a website and do not have the coding skills to develop one and cannot use the CMS, then it is necessary to hire a website designer.

You will develop your website using any of these methods depending on the purpose and goals of the website.

The web designer should have the necessary creative, visualization and professional skills to develop a good and professionally looking website.

It is necessary to not that developing a website requires some resources like a computer system (preferably a laptop) with the necessary software installed.

Also, to be able to visit the website in the internet, one requires bandwidth that is provided by the Internet Service Providers (ISP) to connect.

A web designer can develop the website directly in the internet at the hosting server. In an environment like our in Nigeria, where bandwidth is quite expensive, it is not advisable to develop directly in the internet for cost reasons.

Therefore a web designer can develop the website on a stand-alone computer and transfer it to the hosting server through the domain name system.

This requires using some web server emulators like WAMP and XAMPP. These emulators create an environment that similar to the internet.
